Digital experience platforms are the infrastructure of the 21st century, based on new ways of trading, free-flowing access to information and disruptive new ways of interacting across industries and technologies. The new economy is organized around marketplaces where supply and demand meet, both globally and locally. They have transformed retail, transportation and tourism. Industry is next. Indeed, we’re now much less concerned with flows of parts than with flows of usages and data. This century will be a time of high-added-value networks in which the real and the virtual merge, each complementing and amplifying the other to produce goods and experiences. Tomorrow’s game-changers will be those whose value networks involve subcontractors as full-fledged partners in value creation. Industrial firms must see themselves as platforms. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform, that is both a business operating system and a marketplace, and soon the largest virtual factory worldwide, is the platform that enables businesses of the world to become platform businesses.
