In the 21st century, industry is no longer a means of production, but a process of value creation.
A dreamer no longer needs physical hardware and software to design and engineer their vision. A maker no longer needs a physical laboratory to produce their goods. With minimal investment, from a computer or tablet, a modern-day da Vinci can not only design and engineer a flying machine on the cloud, but make it too, sending the model to a 3D printer anywhere in the world with a single click.
This is the Dassault Systèmes vision of Industry Renaissance for the 21st century, where the time and distance between dream and reality, between virtual and real, shrinks to zero. With the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace, that future is now.
The 3DEXPERIENCE platform unites the many specialized disciplines needed to convert an idea into a 3D model that can be tested, refined and experienced, all in a virtual environment. The 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace unites supply and demand, the global and the local, also in a virtual environment. Together, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace are as revolutionary as Gutenberg’s world-changing combination of a printing press with moveable type.
How? Imagine a child in China who needs a prosthetic arm, and a designer in Germany who can model one just for him. Yesterday, combining his need and her knowledge and know-how would have required months – and significant yuan. Today, a portable 3D scanner documents every feature of the child’s healthy arm. From a laptop, his parents upload the scan to the designer’s drive on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Using the scan’s data and the platform’s apps, the designer refines a standard 3D arm model into a mirror-image replacement.
She then accesses the “Make” portion of the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace and identifies an additive manufacturer in China certified for such work. She negotiates with and hires the 3D printer through the Marketplace and provides access to the 3D model on the platform. The local printer produces the prosthetic limb and delivers it to the child’s parents – at a small fraction of yesterday’s cost.
The same process works for industrial parts too. Part Supply on the 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace lists tens of millions of qualified components from 600 suppliers worldwide. These suppliers no longer need to stock replacement parts in warehouses around the globe; instead, their customers choose the part they need on the Marketplace, and a certified and local 3D printer makes and delivers it.
Digital experience platforms are the infrastructure of modern industry, and industry marketplaces are their value networks. Welcome to the Industry Renaissance, available today.
