Increasingly, the word “sustainability” seems to be on everyone’s lips, and not just as it relates to the environment.

Social issues – fairness, opportunity and quality of life – are equally important. And so are economic issues: the impact a company’s success has on its community, including its long-term viability.

These three categories of sustainability – social, environmental and economic, popularly known as “people, planet and profit” – support and reinforce one another. Only by achieving a balance among all three can we have a truly circular economy. Which explains the growing importance of another word: purpose. To enable a sustainable world, businesses must understand not only how they make money but how they make our global economy work for people, planet and profit.

In fact, however, Dassault Systèmes has pursued this purpose since the company was founded more than three decades ago. Our entire raison d’être is to help businesses design their products, services and processes to improve life for people by creating safe, helpful, delightful experiences; to be good for the planet, delivering the most benefit from the smallest possible consumption of resources; and to help businesses be profitable while empowering them to use their resources responsibly and efficiently, creating longevity for their shareholders, employees and customers.
